Target Audience
Family justice courses are intended for the following:
Family Justice Counsellor
Family Justice Counsellors are certified mediators who screen potential clients for the incidence of family violence and offer appropriate alternatives. Family Justice Counsellors also provide family mediation, conciliation, and short term counselling to persons (primarily those of modest means) who are contemplating or experiencing separation or divorce, giving clients an alternative to litigation.
Please note that our courses do not certify you as a Family Justice Counsellor. See Application Requirements for further details.
Private Family Mediator
A specialization in Family Mediation will provide an individual with quality education and training in mediation within a family context. This training may be applied towards the minimum training requirements of Family Mediation Canada for certification as a Family Relations Mediator. This is a 20-credit certificate, 280 hours or 40 days long, and is awarded upon successful completion of all classroom and online course requirements and an assessment. Courses are delivered in a combination of classroom and online models.
Family justice courses are also included in the Family Mediation Certificate.
Personal Interest
Individuals who are taking the courses for personal interest can take them in any order, as their time allows.

Course Delivery Format
The courses are available online. Only one course, FAM111, is offered in a classroom format.
Each course identifies the approximate amount of study hours required to complete the course. The time allocated is considered adequate for working adults to complete the course; however, a participant can complete the courses in a shorter time period if they wish to do so.
Activities, self tests, discussions, assignments, and usually a final quiz will be used in the courses to make the material relevant and practical to the participant. Computer skills are an asset.

About the Courses
Below is a list of the courses we offer. Course fees include all course materials and user fees.

* The Ministry of Attorney General gives preference to applicants who have completed courses marked with an asterisk.
