Course Description

Download Course Outline

This 14 hour online course will help you determine if a career as an Adult Probation Officer is right for you, and it is one of the prerequisites for this career. The course material describes the B.C. Community Corrections Branch and its model of community offender management and intervention.

There are no separate textbooks; all training materials can be printed from within the course. Evaluative components for this course include four assignments and a fieldwork project that requires you to visit an adult probation office and interview a local manager or a senior probation officer. You must submit assignments weekly, so please ensure you are available and have internet access to do coursework throughout the five weeks of the training.

Employment
APO155 is valid for three years from the date of completion. This course is a prerequisite course required before applicants can apply to be hired as an Adult Probation Officer or Probation Officer 14 in British Columbia. However, it is not a guarantee of employment.

Please see the Adult Probation Officer webpage for more information about the requirements of these two job classifications.
