Course Description

Learn how to manage large and complex emergency incidents. In this advanced-level course, utilize immersive simulation technology to explore methods for managing activities and resources in multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional settings.

Course Goal
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to manage large and complex emergency incidents, multiple incidents involving multiple agencies and multiple jurisdictions, or participate in a supervisory position in such incidents.

Course Topics
Course topics include: major incident management; command and general staff; obtaining legal powers; emergency evacuations; emergency operations centres; role of volunteer agencies; and additional support agencies.

Course Format
This interactive three-day course features immersive simulations, applied scenarios and activities, and includes an exam.

Prerequisites
Students must complete the prerequisites before registering for this course. Prerequisites for this course are listed above. Students who have taken the prerequisite training through a provider other than the JIBC must provide documentation of successful completion.

Important Information
This is an elective course in the Emergency Management Certificate. All materials and text books will be provided in class and no special equipment is required. Please note that all Emergency Management Division courses require 100% attendance.

Scholarships
Employees and volunteers of Local Authorities (Municipalities/Regional Districts) and First Nations Communities throughout British Columbia are eligible for individual scholarships of $1000 for enrollment in Incident Command System Level 400 through the JIBC.
