- Meet Prerequisite for Primary Care Paramedic Program
- Meet Prerequisite for Diploma in Health Sciences

COURSE FORMAT

Full-Time - 8 Days - Monday to Friday | 8:30AM-4:30PM over 1.5 weeks.
Part-Time - 8 Days - Sat/Sun only | 8:00AM - 4:30PM for 4 weekends.

PREREQUISITES | Completion of any of the following:

- Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certificate (Or expired within the last 6 months)
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 3 (OFA3) Certificate (or expired within the last 6 months)
- Current Advanced Medical First Responder (AMFR) Level 2 (or expired within the last 6 months)
- Advanced Wilderness First Responder (AWFR) (or expired within the last 6 months)
- Valid First Responder Level 3 (FR3) License (with spinal immobilization and AED endorsement)
- Previously Certified as an Emergency Medical Responder (completed within the last 3 years)
- Additional training or certification deemed equivalent (Must be approved PRIOR To registration)

Credentials must have be completed within the past 3 years or recently expired (within past six months)

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

Students are not required to show proof of English language abilities, however, it is highly recommended for students to have completed 'English 10' or higher. Students who do not meet this criteria, or who are 'English as a Second Language' (ESL) candidates are advised to contact us prior to registration

STATEMENT OF FITNESS

Students are required to complete a 'Statement of Fitness' on the first day of class. This is a self-reported questionnaire regarding basic capacity to participate in medical training. A sample copy of this form is provided in the EMR Information and Registration Package. It is essential that students ensure they meet required medical criteria for certification prior to registration. If a student does not meet the criteria but chooses to register, they may not receive EMR certification despite successful completion of required course components. For additional questions or concerns regarding physical fitness, please contact us prior to registration.

The above textbooks are mandatory requirements and students are responsible for purchasing the textbook PRIOR to the start of class. Books are available from the JIBC Store | 604-528-5870 or email jistore@jibc.ca.

Transfers and withdrawals from this course require 21 days (3 weeks) notice and an administrative fee of $50.00.

The EMR-Accelerated course is designed to efficiently and effectively train candidates to the EMR level of practice. This course is specifically designed for students with a previous first-aid or emergency health background and bridges the critical gaps necessary to handle a broader range of emergencies and medical conditions. The EMR course also provides candidates with foundational knowledge in human anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology; supporting further learning and development in health science.
