Download Course OutlineThis online training describes the background and utilization of the STABLE-2007 and ACUTE-2007 sex offender risk assessment measures. It provides an overview, detailed instruction and practical experience in the use of these risk assessment tools. The course prepares criminal justice personnel and other professionals to employ these measures and enables them to estimate the risk of a sex offender's sexual and violent recidivism. In its discussion of risk factors, the course also explores the major variables that have been found to underlie sexual re-offence.

This is a 21 hour online course, designed to be completed part time over five weeks. All materials and resources are provided electronically. Evaluative components for this training include course participation (completion of all exercises) and a final written assignment and exam.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisite courses required to take this training. However, participants are strongly advised to have first completed one of the following courses:
- STATIC-99R: Sex Offender Risk Assessment - SOAP105
- Other approved training in STATIC-99 or STATIC-99R [approved training refers to training delivered by STATIC-99 certified trainers]
Computer Requirements
Students must meet minimum computer requirements prior to starting the course.
In addition, you must have Flash 8 viewer with audio capabilities and high-speed Internet for this course. If you can view Dr. Karl Hanson's video on the Sex Offender Risk/Need Assessment webpage you likely meet the requirements.
Note: B.C. Probation Officers should not take this course and are instead advised to consult their Local Manager to be enrolled in a separate sex offender training program for Corrections Branch employees.
