Exercise Design Courses
Our Exercise Design courses are regularly offered in several locations across Canada, including New Westminster, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince George, Ottawa and Toronto - as well as online! All courses count as credit towards our Emergency Management Exercise Design Certificate and may count as electives towards our Emergency Management Certificate.

- Introduction to Emergency Management Exercise Design In this two-day course, explore the basics of emergency management exercise design and learn how the field of exercise design has changed in recent years to become a key component of emergency preparedness. Review the concepts of a formal multi-year exercise program, the exercise program management team, the five-phase exercise design model and the exceise design team.
- Designing and Conducting Discussion-Based Exercises In this two-day course, apply the five-phase exercise cycle to design a discussion-based exercise. Work in small groupsto create all the materials needed to conduct a table-top exercise. Participate in role-play activities and gain first-hand experience in dealing with common exercise problems. This course will benifit anyone needing to delvoep seminars, workshops, table-top exercises and immersive simulations.
- Designing Operations-Based Exercises In this three-day course, apply the Foundation and Design and Development phases of the exercise cycle to develop materials for an operations-based exercise. Work in small groups to examine
budget requirements, scenario development and logistical items that must be considered int eh design of a functional and full-scale exercise.
- Conducting Operations-Based Exercises In this two-day course, apply the Conduct, Evaluationa nd Improvement Planning phases of the exercise cycle to an operations-based exercise. Work in small groups to troubleshoot issues that typically arise when conducting a full-scale exercise. Identify evaluation techniques used to ensure exercise objectives are achieved and explore methods for identifying and applying corrective actions.

- Full-scale Exercises: Choose a full-scale exercise when you want to enact a realistic scenario to validate multiple functions across multiple sites.
