Welcome to the Fire & Safety Division
The Fire & Safety Division (FSD) of the Justice Institute of
BC (JIBC) was established in 1978. Its original mandate was to establish training
programs for the volunteer fire departments in the province. Initially
known as the Fire Services Academy, we have grown from a three-man operation
to an organization with 24 full time staff and over 150 instructors.
Our market has evolved to the point where we now offer programs and courses for career and volunteer
fire fighters, as well as industrial and marine personnel engaged
in emergency responses. We are accredited by both the International
Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the National Board
on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard).
