JIBC Career Fire Fighter Pre-Employment Program gains Canadian Armed Forces recognition

CAF recruiting centres will begin accepting applications from graduates of JIBC’s 12-week pre-employment program in late 2014

Firefighting graduates from the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) will soon have an easier time applying for jobs in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

In March, JIBC’s firefighter programs became recognized for meeting the occupational training and learning requirements for CAF firefighting personnel. This includes JIBC's Career Fire Fighter Pre-Employment Certificate Program.

“JIBC has continued to improve its firefighter programs to meet the evolving needs of fire and rescue service departments across the country,” said Peter Grootendorst, Director of the Fire & Safety Division at JIBC. “Recognition by the Canadian Armed Forces illustrates how we are responding to the needs of the industry and graduating professionals with the necessary skills to excel in a career in public safety.”

Over the past few years, JIBC’s Fire & Safety Division has continued to expand where it provides training for fire and rescue professionals. In addition to training firefighters and search and rescue personnel in B.C., it has provided training to professionals in the Yukon, Nunavut, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Quebec and also internationally.

JIBC’s Fire and Safety Division (FSD) is accredited to 42 levels of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and the Pro Board Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (Pro Board). JIBC is also the only post-secondary institution in Canada that has bridged professional training and certification into an academic pathway leading to the Bachelor of Public Safety Administration

The latest class of the 12-week Career Fire Fighter Pre-Employment Certificate Program began their applied studies today. Applications are now being accepted for the September class.
