JIBC honours the life of a local first responder

Flags at all JIBC campuses at half-mast to honour the dedication and service of Captain Flynn Lamont

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is flying flags at half-mast at all its campuses to honor the dedication and service of Captain Flynn Lamont, a respected professional firefighter and search and rescue volunteer who passed away the morning of October 29 after a courageous battle with cancer.

A long-time member of Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services and Coquitlam Search and Rescue, Flynn was instrumental in the development of the Vancouver Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (HUSAR) Team, and was on the team that was deployed to New Orleans to help communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

He was also a long-time faculty member in JIBC’s Fire & Safety Division, and was a highly skilled and well-regarded instructor who taught Technical Rescue and also in JIBC’s Fire Fighter Pre-Employment Program (the precursor to the Fire Fighter Technologies Certificate).

“On behalf of everyone at JIBC, we send our deepest condolences to Captain Lamont’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Dr. Michel Tarko, President and CEO of JIBC. “His legacy of dedicated service to helping those in need, as well as training firefighters from across Canada will not be forgotten.”

Details on the service for Captain Lamont will be distributed by Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services.
