JIBC & Philips Healthcare Canada partner in Education
Students in JIBC School of Health Sciences programs will have access to state-of-the-art heart monitors and defibrillators, thanks to a significant donation made by Philips Healthcare Canada at the JIBC Foundation Gala on December 1, 2010. The $372,710 donation by Philips is the largest ever corporate gift to the JIBC Foundation. This year’s Gala raised over $500,000 in funds that will be applied to student bursaries and scholarships and supporting the financial needs of the Institute.
Philips representative Ellen Smith characterized the gift as a “win” from three perspectives. A win for the JIBC and its students, as training in emergency cardiology pre-hospital care will now be significantly enhanced. A win for Philips, as the partnership provides a showcase for its products and builds its profile in the community. Perhaps most importantly, a win for the community, as residents will benefit from the enhanced level of care provided by JIBC graduates that will enjoy access to this equipment.
“The gift from Philips is a significant vote of confidence in the quality of programs offered by the JIBC School of Health Sciences,” said the school’s Dean, Eddy Workhoven. Providing students with access to these heart monitors and defibrillators will help strengthen their clinical knowledge and experience and produce graduates that are well-prepared to respond to the critical incidents that they will face during their careers.
JIBC‘s partnership with Philips is an important milestone in the Institute’s plan to build strategic alliances that will help to deliver on its mission to provide “innovative education for those who make communities safe.”
