Leadership program developed in partnership with JIBC and BC Housing wins gold for training excellence
The Competencies in Leadership – an Integrated Program (CLIP) recognized as a valuable program for organizational learning by The Institute for Performance and Learning

A leadership program for BC Housing developed in partnership with the Justice Institute of British Columbia has won a Gold Award from the Institute for Performance and Learning (IPL).
The Competencies in Leadership – an Integrated Program (CLIP) received the Gold Canadian Award for Training Excellence at the IPL’s annual conference held in Toronto from November 18-20, 2015.
The program was developed and implemented through JIBC’s Centre for Leadership and provides an experiential, technology-enhanced leadership development program for leaders within BC Housing.
CLIP received high marks from the awards committee, which evaluated the program’s originality, its value of to the organization, the learner experience, and application of IPL’s Competencies for Training and Development Professionals©.
Using a blended learning approach, CLIP employs:
- A Blackboard-based eLearning portal to engage learners and develop foundational knowledge;
- Workshops immersing leaders in training scenarios using JIBC’s PRAXIS training simulation technology;
- BC Housing’s award-winning PRISM coaching program; and
- Workplace triads that propel learners to apply the skills they gain in the real world.
Barb Kidd, JIBC’s Dean of the School of Health, Community and Social Justice, and Kent Highnam, Program Director for the Centres for Leadership and Conflict Resolution, were on hand at the IPL awards night to receive the award.
“It’s an honour that CLIP is recognized for the innovative and effective leadership training it has provided to so many leaders in BC Housing,” said Kidd. “This award reflects the efforts of the exceptional team of instructors and staff in the Centre for Leadership that have been critical to the program’s success.”
“Senior executives from BC Housing are very pleased with the impact of CLIP, which has been instrumental in expanding the capabilities of its leaders, and spurring innovation and collaboration within the organization,” said Highnam. “We are very proud of CLIP, which is a meaningful example of the customized leadership education we can provide for both public and private organizations.”
