Important Dates

The following withdrawal and refund deadline dates only apply to 3 credit, academic courses that are 13 - 15 weeks in length (comprising instruction and final exams). Deadline dates, where the course is less than 13 – 15 weeks in length, will be pro-rated. Some courses of less than 13 weeks are not eligible for any refund.

Fall Semester 2011 (September - December)

Sep 6

Semester begins.

Sep 6-19

Course drop refund during this period is 50% minus a $50 administration fee.

Sep 19

Last day to change from credit to audit status in a course.

Sep 19

Last day to drop a course without receiving a "W" on record (subsequent withdrawals receive a grade of "W").

Oct 10

Institute closed – Thanksgiving Day.

Oct 17-21

Mid-semester - students may obtain mid-semester standing from instructors during this week in order to make decisions about dropping courses by the deadline below.  Course drop refund from Sept. 19 – Oct. 21 is 25% minus a $50 administration fee.

Oct 28

Deadline for students placed on academic probation from the Summer semester to meet with a Counsellor. Students, who do not meet with a Counsellor by this date, will be unable to access their records or register for future semesters.

 Nov 6

 Last day to drop a course or completely withdraw from the Institute.  (Student will receive a “W” on permanent record). Oct. 22 – Nov. 6 no course refunds.

Nov 11

 Institute Closed – Remembrance Day.

Dec 9

Last day of classes.

Dec 12- 17

Examination Period.

Jan TBA

 Convocation.

Winter Semester 2012 (January - April)

Jan 3

Semester begins.

Jan 3-16

Course drop refund during this period is 50% minus a $50 administration fee.

Jan 16

Last day to change from credit to audit status in a course.

Feb 13-17

Feb 24

Mar 2

Last day to drop a course or completely withdraw from the Institute (Students will receive a "W" on permanent record).  Feb. 18 – Mar. 2 no course refunds.

Apr 6

Last day of classes.

Apr 9 - 14

Summer Semester 2012 (May - August)

May 7

Semester begins.

May 7-22

Course drop refund during this period is 50% minus a $50 administration fee.

May/June TBA

June 18-22

July 2

Institute closed – Canada Day.

July 4

Deadline for students placed on academic probation from the Winter semester to meet with a Counsellor. Students who do not meet with a Counsellor by this date will be unable to access their records or register for future semesters.

July 6

Last day to drop a course or completely withdraw from the Institute (students will receive a “W” on permanent record).  Jun. 23 – July 6 no course refunds.

Aug 6

Institute closed – BC Day. 

Aug 10

Last day of classes.

Aug 13 - 18

Tuition Fees

Refunds are calculated from the day the withdrawal is processed on the Registration System. Tuition fee refunds are based on the number of course hours or semester credits from which a student withdraws and the length of the course(s).

Tuition is refunded in the same manner it was received.  Cheques are issued in the name of and mailed directly to the person who paid for the course.

Refund Schedule

A. For Courses of 7-13 Weeks
