Who Should Take This Certificate

This certificate will benefit trainers or instructors in community, government, corporate or education settings, or individuals who oversee training programs. It’s designed for both mid-career professionals who are new to adult education and experienced trainers looking to strengthen their skills and knowledge of adult education theory and practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the certificate, students are able to:

  • Design, deliver, facilitate and assess effective learner-centred instruction for adults
  • Create learning activities that are interactive and hands-on for different delivery modes – both online and in the classroom
  • Apply instructional strategies and select appropriate educational technologies that maximize the learning experience and enhance learning and teaching for your learners
  • Create a safe, encouraging and challenging learning environment that promotes respect and values diversity
  • Reflect critically on your personal and professional instructor development as your career progresses

Format (Learning Format/Structure)

  • The certificate program is 18 days of training (9 credits) with 12 days of required courses and six days of electives.
  • Training is face-to-face and some courses are offered online.
  • Courses can be taken individually or as part of the certificate.
  • There is continuous intake into this certificate program.
  • Required courses are scheduled several times throughout the year. Electives are offered less often.
  • Full attendance is required.
  • It is recommended that learners complete the program within three years.

Courses

Start with Foundations of Instructional Practice (INDC100) and the next three required courses can be taken in any order. You can intersperse elective courses throughout your program and finish with Instructional Skills Practicum (INDC190).

Cost

Certificate Enrolment Fee: $75 (effective 04/01/11)

Cost for the program is approximately $3200 plus LSF (costs vary based on course locations).
