The Centre for Court Administration – the newest addition to the School of Public Safety and Security – was established in October of 2011.
The Centre will develop and deliver accredited training for court administration staff within the Court Services Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General.
Court administration staff play an essential role in the justice system, supporting the Judiciary, the bar and the public both in court (court clerking) and out of court (registry operations).
The new Centre will offer foundational training for new hires and continuing professional development for existing Court Administration employees. Programs and curriculum are currently under development. The first courses are expected to be available in early 2012.
Programs
The Centre for Court Administration will provide the following programs:
Foundational Studies in Court Administration
Foundational Studies will offer new employees a series of courses designed to build a comprehensive understanding of the justice system and the role of the Ministry of Attorney General and Court Service Branch. Foundational Studies will also include orientation training for new staff.
Continuing Studies in Court Administration
Continuing Studies will provide employees with the detailed knowledge, skills and training required for their specific roles, such as court clerking or civil registry work. This training will be available to both new hires (as required by their jobs) and to existing staff as they advance in their careers within the branch.
