Emergency Vehicle Driving Regulations
Overview
The Emergency Vehicle Driving Regulation course teaches the legal requirements for emergency response by a person other than a Police Officer. This course was developed to familiarize drivers of emergency vehicles with the legislative requirements and guidelines for operating emergency vehicles.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, Regulations, and departmental policy regarding emergency vehicle operation.
The course is divided into segments each with specific learning objectives. These segments are:
- Introduction to the Course
- Overview of Policy
- Emergency Vehicle Operation
- Risk Assessment
- Liability Issues
- Reporting Requirements
Who Should Take This Course
Emergency response personnel other then police, who operate emergency vehicles.
This includes personnel from:
- ambulance service
- fire service
- conservation service
- sheriff service
- other emergency vehicle operators
Learning Objectives
This course is designed to familiarize drivers of emergency vehicles with the legislative requirements and guidelines for operating emergency vehicles.
The sessions will encourage the participants to interact with the presenter and to clarify areas that are controversial in nature.
Format (Learning Format/Structure)
4 Hours
The course is offered face to face and is delivered at various locations around the province. It is also available online for BC Ambulance Service personnel.
Cost
$75.00 per student
Instructor travel costs will be charged for courses outside Metro Vancouver
Course Requirements
Must be professionals working in emergency services and employed by a provincially recognized organization.
