The JIBC Fire & Safety Division is delivering free workshops to prepare first responders to safely operate at incidents involving hybrid vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). These workshops have been funded by the BC Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Fire Chiefs Association of BC.

These workshops are available to:

  • Fire Service members
  • Current Paramedics
  • Serving Police Officers
  • Recovery and Tow Truck Operators
  • Other first responders who may deal with alternative fuel vehicles on BC roads

Topics covered in the workshops include:

  • Basic Electrical Concepts and Hazards
  • P/HEV and EV Systems
  • Initial Response
  • Emergency Operations
  • Fuel Cell Vehicles

The workshop for Fire Service Training Officers is a Train-the-Trainer Workshop. Firefighters who have attended and successfully completed the workshop will be able to deliver the training to their own department and organization. Maximum 4 members per department.

The workshop for other first responders is an information session that will provide the essential knowledge required to safely operate at incidents involving alternative fuel vehicles.
