Computer Requirements

Windows       Minimum Windows PC Requirements

  • Pentium III class computer, minimum 500 MHz (preferred: Pentium IV 1.5GHz);
  • 256MB RAM minimum (preferred: 512MB);
  • 32MB Video Card minimum (preferred: 128MB);
  • Sound Card is required for some courses;
  • 56K modem minimum (high speed required for some courses);
  • Windows 2000, XP or Vista
  • Your own Internet e-mail address (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, etc.);
  • Web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0; Netscape Navigator 7.0+; Firefox 2) - check your browser now;
  • Microsoft Word, minimum Office 97;
  • Some courses will need plug-ins such as Flash player 8 or higher, QuickTime player 6.5+, Adobe Reader 6.0 or higher, Java Runtime Environment and Windows Media Player 10; and
  • Some online courses may also require a CD ROM (8x minimum, higher recommended)

Macintosh       Minimum Apple Macintosh Requirements

  • Power Macintosh or faster
  • G4 or higher (Intel preferred)
  • 512 MB RAM (higher recommended)
  • 32MB Video Card minimum (preferred: 128MB);
  • Sound Card is required for some courses;
  • 56K modem minimum (high speed required for some courses);
  • Mac OS 10.3 or higher
  • Your own Internet e-mail address (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, etc.);
  • Web browser (Internet Explorer 6.0; Netscape Navigator 7.0+; Firefox 2 ; Safari 2) - check your browser now;
  • Microsoft Word, minimum Office 97;
  • Some courses will need plug-ins such as Flash player 8 or higher, QuickTime player 6.5+, Adobe Reader 6.0 or higher, Java Runtime Environment and
  • Some online courses may also require a CD ROM (8x minimum, higher recommended)

If you do not have all of the above requirements, you may still be able to take an online course but performance may suffer noticeably and the JIBC cannot be held responsible.
