Funding

Funding is an essential part of developing any community initiative or program, whether large or small.  We have created a list of useful tips on writing funding applications for projects on sexual exploitation.  Below you will find links to organizations that provide funding for projects and programs specifically on sexual exploitation, as well as those whose funding goals include issues related to sexual exploitation.

In addition to applying for project funding, your fundraising will likely include appealing to the local businesses and larger community.  Sexual exploitation is a problem that affects all segments of society and involves not only youth victims, but also those who recruit them and those who abuse them through sexually exploiting or physically assaulting them.  Sexual exploitation also affects the families of the youth involved, their friends and community.  Businesses and community organizations should be encouraged to support the ongoing efforts of community action networks, as sexual exploitation needs to be addressed from all levels of society.  Businesses can support your events by:

·         donating space to hold events (including local universities, colleges, and community centers)

·         donating supplies (such as or food and office supplies)

·         donating services (such as photocopying)

·         putting up posters in their establishments to promote your events

·         giving out ribbons for sexual exploitation awareness week

·         And much more…

Tips for applying for funding worksheet

One of the main barriers that community organizations and action teams face is finding sustainable funding for their projects. Writing funding applications and project proposals can be an overwhelming task, especially when there is so much competition for the limited dollars available.  Keep this list of useful tips in mind when applying for funding for your projects.

NCPC (National Crime Prevention Centre)

The National Crime Prevention Centre, part of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada, offers various types of funding for projects related to sexual exploitation.  They offer funding for programs that adopt a crime prevention through social development lens, with particular emphasis on addressing crime and victimization among women, children and youth at risk, or Aboriginal peoples.

Visit the NCPC website for more information on upcoming deadlines and project guidelines.

ADM’s Committee on Prostitution and the Sexual Exploitation of Youth

The Community Capacity Building Project Fund is aimed at building community capacity to prevent and address issues related to prostitution and the sexual exploitation of children and youth.

Under the fund, grant amounts vary each year, with one- and three-year funding streams available. Proposals are encouraged from a variety of groups, including existing or newly formed Community Action Teams, youth groups, community based agencies, Aboriginal and ethno-cultural organizations, organizations serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities, municipalities, school districts,  businesses and others.
