Priority Projects

Priority needs in education and research

To serve more than 32,000 students each year with innovative education programs that prepare them for their chosen professions or help them continue to develop their professional skills, JIBC requires unique technology or capital investment.  To inform public safety and service policy and practices, we also need the capacity to support applied research.

Current funding priorities include:

Show All

Applied research

The JIBC Foundation is helping to build an Applied Research Program that is unique in BC and Canada by seeking donors or partners interested in funding and/or endowing applied research Chairs, post-graduate scholarships and other initiatives that support research at JIBC.

Centre for Aboriginal Programs & Services

The JIBC Foundation is raising funds to provide scholarships, bursaries and awards for Aboriginal students and to develop the curriculum for a diploma program that will be designed for graduates of the Aboriginal Leadership Certificate program.

Emergency design and simulation

Thanks to a generous contribution, the Dr. Donald B. Rix Public Safety Building was established at JIBC as a unique resource for public safety exercise simulation.  More funding and new technology is now needed to help to create a library of exercise simulations that can be used nationally and internationally, as part of JIBC’s goal to establish a national centre of excellence for simulation exercise design, delivery, education and research.

Firefighter education equipment: breathing apparatus and flashover simulator

JIBC offers practical learning opportunities for firefighters, but the lessons learned can save lives. Most of these learning opportunities involve the use of self-contained breathing apparatus. To continue to provide this type of education safely, the JIBC Foundation is raising funds to purchase new equipment and replace the older models currently in daily use.

In addition, the JIBC Foundation is seeking support to bring a Live-Fire Flashover Simulator to the Maple Ridge Campus. New to BC, this will be a valuable tool to educate firefighters about flashover conditions.

First Responder Fund

The JIBC Foundation is raising funds for a new First Responder Fund to help JIBC staff or alumni who volunteer to help people affected by disasters both within Canada and internationally.  Most recently, faculty and alumni of JIBC’s School of Health Sciences played an important role in providing emergency assistance to thousands of people in earthquake-torn Haiti.

Library resources

The Library is often called the “heart of the institute”. Donor support is needed to enhance the collection of materials used by students and public safety professionals for both learning and research.  Support is also needed to sustain the growing number of online databases and electronic journal subscriptions, resources that provide students with online access to the most up-to-date information. Your support will directly benefit justice and public safety education.

For more information, please contact the JIBC Foundation.

Memorial Fund

By helping the students who aspire to serve, we can honour and remember those who have gone before. The JIBC Foundation’s Memorial Fund will help the JIBC Foundation to purchase new equipment and advanced technology for its campuses, to support applied research and to establish student scholarships or bursaries.

For more information, please contact the JIBC Foundation.

Patient simulators: paramedic and health professional education

The JIBC Foundation’s goal is to create the best simulated learning environment for emergency responders in Canada. The Foundation is seeking funds to provide students in the JIBC School of Health Sciences access to a suite of realistic patient simulators that will enhance their emergency medical skills and help them save lives.

For more information, please contact the JIBC Foundation.

Student support: scholarships and bursaries

JIBC invites new donors to join the generous individuals and organizations that have created scholarships and bursaries used to recognize educational achievements or to assist students in financial hardship. The ability to access financial support for their early career education helps to attract new public safety and service professionals. Your support will have a tremendous impact and create opportunities for young people to fulfill their lifelong dreams.

Traffic Safety Centre of Excellence

This centre will build on the current reputation and capabilities of JIBC’s highly respected Pacific Traffic Education Centre, by expanding its role to include a wider range of educational programs, increased services for public driver safety education and more opportunities for applied research
