About the Event

Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to recognize and effectively manage emotions in ourselves and with others. Emotional intelligence increases our capacity to make sound decisions, build mutually supportive relationships in a hybrid environment, and build resilience to handle stress effectively. In this one-day experiential course, you will gain a working knowledge of Emotional Intelligence competencies and learn practical ways to enhance your self-perception, self-expression, and interpersonal, decision-making, and stress management dimensions related to emotional intelligence.

About the Speaker: Rick Thomas, EdD Rick has enjoyed being a part of both the JIBC’s Centre for Leadership and Fire & Safety Divisions’ instruction teams for over ten years. His passion and focus as instructor continues to be leadership and team effectiveness, always using a practice-based student- (or participant) centred approach. Rick is also a TEDx Speaker, leadership explorer, LEADS and ICF Certified coach, consultant, author and Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator with the Brené Brown Education and Research Group. As principal and “chief inspiration officer” of ambient consulting, inc., Rick finds his joy by assisting leaders achieve greatness through self-exploration, collaborative dialogue and adaptive action. With over 19 years of experience as a speaker, human resources development and learning strategist, facilitator, executive coach and organization development consultant, Rick has practiced in multiple contexts facilitating leadership development, culture transformation, and strategic organizational development initiatives for progressive organizations of 55 to 23,000 employees.
