The JIBC Foundation reached its Giving Tuesday $25,000 goal to fund a new power stretcher for the Paramedic Academy.

Thanks to the generous support of donors and JIBC staff, faculty, and students, The Justice Institute of British Columbia Foundation (The JIBC Foundation) successfully reached its $25,000 goal to fund JIBC’s first power stretcher for paramedic training.

“We are delighted by the tremendous support we received for the Give a Lift to Learning campaign on Giving Tuesday this year,” said Tracy Campbell, Director of Development, JIBC and Executive Director, The JIBC Foundation. “When learning how to save lives, it is vital for our paramedic students to learn on equipment being used out in the field. Every contribution made a difference, and we’re truly grateful for the support of our donors and the JIBC community of staff, faculty and students who participated in various fundraising activities.”

Power stretchers are used to help reduce the risk of injury to paramedics and patients, and for paramedics, they help reduce the physical impact of manually moving and lifting patients.

“On behalf of the Paramedic Academy, I want to thank everyone who gave a lift to learning on Dec. 3,” said Kathy Harms, Director of JIBC’s Health Sciences Division. “At JIBC, we aim to provide a learning environment that reflects real-world working conditions as closely as possible. With health care delivery, including paramedic services, constantly improving to provide better care for patients and better work environments for staff, it can be challenging to keep pace with the changes, especially with new equipment. We’re looking forward to the new power stretcher arriving so our paramedic students can learn how to use this equipment correctly and be better prepared for their future careers.”

The Give a Lift to Learning Campaign on Dec. 3 was held as part of Giving Tuesday, the global campaign that encourages people to give back and make a difference in their community. Donations to the campaign were matched by The JIBC Foundation.
