The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is aware of the Jan. 25, 2021 article by Glacier Media on our International Law Enforcement Studies program.
The JIBC Police Academy does not and has never provided training to international police recruits. It trains only domestic police recruits that have been hired by B.C.’s police agencies.
For clarification, JIBC also offers academic programs in law enforcement studies. The International Law Enforcement Studies program offers a four-month instruction program to undergraduate students in law studies programs, covering the Canadian justice system, approach to law enforcement, cooperation in international law enforcement, communication and crisis intervention skills, and leadership and management skills. At this time, no international students are enrolled in the program.
We appreciate the changing global context in international education and JIBC is reviewing its international programming and engagement, in consultation with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.
