Fire chief elected as Chair of JIBC Board of Governors

New Vice-Chair also elected, both effective Aug. 1

Stephen Gamble 2018Township of Langley Fire Chief Dr. Stephen Gamble is the new Chair of the JIBC Board of Governors.

The Justice Institute of British Columbia’s (JIBC) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Stephen Gamble as the next Board Chair of its Board of Governors, effective Aug. 1, 2019.

Dr. Gamble is currently the fire chief for the Township of Langley. He also serves as president of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and the Fire Chiefs Association of British Columbia, and as a director at the Institution of Fire Engineers – British Columbia Group. He joined the JIBC Board of Governors in December 2017. 

He will take over the role of Chair from Sukhminder Virk, a barrister and solicitor practising at Lindsay Kenney LLP in Langley, who will be leaving the Board after his maximum six years of service ends on July 31, 2019.

Maria Preovolos 2018Maria Preovolos of TELUS is the new Vice-Chair of the JIBC Board of Governors. 

The JIBC Board of Governors has also elected Maria Preovolos as its new Vice-Chair. Ms. Preovolos is associate general counsel at TELUS Communications. She has served as a JIBC Governor since July 2018.

She takes over the Vice-Chair position from Dr. Tina Dion, QC, a lawyer who was required to step down early from the JIBC Board of Governors after being appointed a provincial court judge in May. Dr. Dion had served as a JIBC Governor since July 2016.
