JIBC honours life and service of fallen Victoria Police officer

Flags at all JIBC campuses at half-mast to honour the dedication and sacrifice of Const. Ian Jordan

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is flying flags at half-mast at all JIBC campuses to honour Victoria Police Department Const. Ian Jordan who passed away on Wednesday, April 11 from injuries received while on duty.

On Sept. 22, 1987, Const. Jordan was responding to a call of a potential break-and-enter in progress when he was involved in a motor vehicle collision. His injuries left him in a coma until his death this week.

The enduring legacy of this tragic incident was that in response, Victoria Police Department established a “trauma team,” the forerunner of its current Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team. Today, this team is an essential part of how VicPD provides assistance to its officers and staff after traumatic incidents.

Const. Jordan graduated from JIBC recruit class 30 on May 31, 1985. He is still fondly remembered by his classmates, one of whom is an instructor with the police academy today. Flags will be flown at half-mast in honour of Const. Ian Jordan.

“The JIBC community is holding Const. Ian Jordan’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” said Dr. Michel Tarko, JIBC President and CEO. “His dedication and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
