JIBC Store hours impacted by labour action
Classes continue to be held as scheduled; labour dispute is between BCGEU and third-party operator
This is to advise that the operating hours of the JIBC Store have been impacted by labour action since January 23.
Please note: Classes continue to be held as scheduled as this labour dispute is between BCGEU members who work at the JIBC Store and JM Project Management, which operates the store. It is not between JIBC and BCGEU.
The JIBC Store is operated by a third-party contractor, JM Project Management Ltd. The store employees are represented by BCGEU in a separate bargaining unit with its own collective agreement. JIBC does not participate in the management of the store nor in the negotiations involving JM Project Management Ltd. and its employees.
The BGGEU has set up a picket line in front of the store. There are no pickets at any of the entrances into the main campus in New Westminster or at any of JIBC’s other campuses. Management has been advised that it is not the union’s intention to expand the picketing area.
During this labour dispute, it may not be possible to purchase the items normally available to students from the store. Typically, our students, as do those in other schools, access their textbooks and materials from a number of sources. Feel free to contact your program area for possible alternative sources of books and materials.
