JIBC student assaulted and robbed in Canada Games Pool parking lot

New Westminster Police investigating and confirm no link to on-going RCMP investigation

At 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, a JIBC student was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone, backpack, and other personal items while walking along the path between the Canada Games Pool parking lot and the JIBC parking lot.

There are two male suspects, and their descriptions are as follows:

  1. White male, in his 20’s, blond hair, red Ecko hoodie, black sweat pants, running shoes.
  2. White male, brown hair and goatee, white Ecko shirt, described as “long”, tattoo of heart on left hand, black sweat pants, running shoes

The New Westminster Police Department is investigating the incident and have advised that it is an isolated incident that could have occurred anywhere in New Westminster, and that it is not related to the on-going investigation linked to JIBC. Police have viewed video from the Canada Games Pool and did not see anyone matching the suspects’ descriptions. Staff at the Canada Games facility and JIBC security have been advised about the incident.

Students, staff, and faculty are reminded to be alert to what and who is around you, particularly when making your way to and from the JIBC campus.  

A security escort is available for anyone wishing to be accompanied to their cars.  This service can be requested at the main reception desk.
