JIBC welcomes federal Public Safety Minister to the New Westminster Campus
The Honourable Ralph Goodale learns about the latest innovative JIBC technology, education and training that is helping to keep Canadians safe

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) welcomed the Honourable Ralph Goodale, federal Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and provided a wide-ranging demonstration of the innovative technology, education and training provided by the institute.
During his visit to the New Westminster Campus on May 24, 2016, Minister Goodale was welcomed by Dr. Michel Tarko, JIBC President & CEO; Colleen Vaughan, Interim Vice-President, Academic; and Jim McGregor, Chair, JIBC Board of Governors; Barb Kidd, Dean of the School of Health, Community & Social Justice.

In the Dr. Donald B. Rix Public Safety Simulation Building, the Minister received a demonstration of JIBC’s award-winning PRAXIS training simulation system. A web-based technology, PRAXIS is used in JIBC’s emergency management and leadership courses, and in customized critical incident training across Canada for government agencies, financial institutions, property management firms and companies in the resource sector.
Minister Goodale was introduced to the many innovative education technologies being applied in various public safety education and training programs offered by JIBC that's available to students and public safety professionals in B.C. and across Canada
Minister Goodale also toured JIBC’s Centre for Teaching, Learning and Innovation (CTLI) and received an overview of the innovative applications of educational technology that have supported the public safety education and training provided by the Institute. Students on campus and online have benefited from the award-winning work of CTLI, as have employees of various public, private and non-profit organizations who receive JIBC training on a contract basis.
The Minister observed some of the applied and experiential training provided by the JIBC Paramedic Academy, which has supported paramedic training across B.C., for the Department of National Defence, and internationally in Hong Kong and Singapore.
“Justice Institute of British Columbia has long been a strong partner in providing the education and research needs for a great many federal public safety agencies and departments,” said the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. “It was wonderful to have the opportunity to visit and see, firsthand, some of the innovative ways the institute has helped build capacity in communities across the country.”
