WorkSafeBC recognizes the skills and knowledge of licensed first responders and paramedics in BC allowing EMALB license holders to receive an Occupational First Aid equivalent certificate through an out-of-jurisdiction process.
EMA license holders (EMR, PCP, ACP, CCP) need to complete and submit the following:
- OFA Registration & Application for Issuing Occupational First Aid Certification Form.
- OFA out of jurisdiction jurisprudence package - April 2020 (Exercises 1-3, pages 7, 8, 10 -13, 23-26)
- Copy of Driver's License or other acceptable ID.
- Present their photo identification in person (if out of town - Zoom, Teams, Facetime, WhatsApp, or fill out the Identification Verification Form.
- Copy EMA Paramedic license (card or letter) issued by the EMA Licensing Board (EMALB)
- Present an EMALB letter indicating that the license is valid and not in shortfall.
- OFA Statement of Fitness.
- JIBC OFA3 Application Certification Form (for payment - see below)

If you hold a valid paramedic license outside of British Columbia you must first contact the EMALB (Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board) and get your BC EMA license. There is a jurisprudence exam to be done.
Once completed and you have a BC EMA license you then can follow the directions above.
