Collision Avoidance Driving

Collision Avoidance Driving emphasizes space, time and observation techniques when driving under all traffic conditions. Collision prevention and how to operate a motor vehicle safely with optimum control and confidence is also taught. This course begins with a 90 minute classroom session followed by hands-on driving instruction in a mini-van. The course is conducted on designated routes. JIBC vehicles are supplied, although company vehicles may also be used.

Who Should Take This Course

This course is available to organizations and the general public who are interested in improving their driving skills and safety.  It is mandatory for all students registered in the TaxiHost Program.

Learning Objectives

Participants practice strategies to prevent collisions and receive feedback about their personal strengths and weaknesses as drivers. 

This course helps drivers develop the key attitudes and road skills required to be a safe professional driver. A computerized analsyt device is utilized to monitor precision braking, steering and acceleration.

Format (Learning Format/Structure)

7 hours

This course consists of a one hour classroom introduction, followed by hands-on practical training, driving with five students and an instructor.  A vehicle is provided by JIBC.

Students must successfully complete a final quiz at the end of the class.


One full-day


(minimum 3 - maximum 5 students per class)

Course Requirements

Participants must present a valid BC Drivers License
