Course Details

This introductory course is for BC Corrections staff who will be facilitating Core Programs and/or Essential Skills to Success (ESS) modules. Students become familiar with the components of effective group facilitation including gaining an understanding of the needs of adult learners, motivating individuals towards behavioural change, and supporting healthy and productive group dynamics. Students will learn more about the following topics as they relate to group facilitation: facilitator wellness, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety and awareness and responsiveness specific to specific populations. Lastly, students will gain a better understanding of their role in maintaining correct data entry practices related to Core programs and ESS modules.

Students will also have an opportunity to reflect on the interpersonal skills they possess and how those skills can effectively be used to support behavioural change.
