About the Event
For several years, JIBC has proudly supported the Moose Hide Campaign and became an official Moose Hide Campaign Ambassador Campus in 2024.
The Moose Hide Campaign began as a B.C.-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to engage men and boys in ending violence towards women and children. It has since grown into a nationwide movement calling on all Canadians to take a stand against domestic and gender-based violence.
We invite you to take part:
Flag-raising ceremonies in New Westminster and Maple Ridge
We invite all students, recruits, staff, and faculty to take part in the Moose Hide Campaign annual flag raising on Monday, May 11:
- 10 a.m. – New Westminster campus, led by Elder Phil Gladue
- 1 p.m. – Maple Ridge campus, led by Elder Ken Pruden
The tradition of raising the Moose Hide Campaign flag was started at JIBC and now other post-secondary institutions nationwide have started to host their own flag raising ceremonies.
Pick up a moose hide pin – Wear and Share
Wearing a moose hide pin is a personal pledge to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in your life. Pins are available free of charge year-round at the JIBC Library, the Office of Indigenization, and the security desk in the Atrium at New Westminster campus. Wear your pin and share with others what it means.
