About the Event

Oct. 4 is the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People (MMIWG2S+). On that day, we join communities across Canada in honouring lives tragically taken, families forever impacted, and survivors of gender- and race-based violence.

This day is not only one of remembrance, but also a Call to Action to end systemic violence and uphold the safety, dignity, and rights of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.

JIBC events to invite reflection, dialogue and solidarity

In partnership with Justice & Public Safety Division (JPSD) and the JIBC Students’ Union (JISU), the Office of Indigenization (OI) is hosting a series of events leading up to Oct. 4 to invite reflection, dialogue, and solidarity. These events are guided by the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry, the Guiding Principles of the National Action Plan, and the strength of survivors and families.

Together, we honour our grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, cousins, friends, and Two-Spirit and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people whose lives, stories, and voices lead this work.
