Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement
For more than a decade, the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement, or CFHI, has been dedicated to accelerating healthcare improvement in Canada. We are a not-for-profit organization with collaborations across the country that include partnerships with researchers, practice leaders and front-line clinical leaders.
Centers for Disease Control & Prevention - National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal agency responsible for conducting research and making recommendations for the prevention of work-related injury and illness.
This agency was established to help assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by providing research, information, education and training in the field of occupational safety and health. Their endeavours are pertinent to Emergency Responders, Firefighters (firefighter fatalities and breathing apparatus) and Healthcare Workers.
National Research Council
The National Research Council (NRC) is the Government of Canada's premier organization for research and development. Responsible for working on the standardization and certification of scientific and technical apparatus and instruments and materials used or usable by Canadian industry.
Underwriter's Laboratories of Canada
Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) is an independent, not-for-profit product safety organization with a long reputation as a Canadian leader in product safety standards development, testing and certification. ULC evaluates a broad range of products, components, materials and systems for compliance to specific requirements.
Also responsible for the development of a framework of guidelines and formulae for use by the fire service and others in determining and projecting the requirements needed to provide fire prevention services, fire fighting and associated rescue services geographically or politically.
Association for Institutional Research (AIR)
The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) is a professional association of more than 3,100 institutional researchers, planners and decision-makers from higher education institutions around the world. AIR exists to benefit its members and help advance research that will improve the understanding, planning, and operation of higher education institutions.
Pacific Northwest Association for Institutional Research and Planning (PNAIRP)
PNAIRP is an international association of institutional researchers and planners. Membership includes practitioners from public and private two-year and four-year post-secondary institutions, and state and provincial agencies from Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Idaho.
Research Universities’ Council of British Columbia (RUCBC)
The Research Universities’ Council of British Columbia (RUCBC) represents the interests of the six major universities in British Columbia. Its mandate is to identify issues facing the universities, provide system-wide leadership in the development of relevant public policy and communicate on behalf of the university system. RUCBC also provides a coordinating forum for its member universities and acts as a provincial focal point for working with the Government of British Columbia and provincial or national bodies associated with universities.
Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)
SCUP is focused on the promotion, advancement and application of effective planning in higher education.
Universities Canada
Their mandate is to facilitate the development of public policy on higher education and to encourage cooperation among universities and governments, industry, communities, and institutions in other countries.
They provide services to member universities in three main areas: public policy and advocacy; communications, research and information-sharing; scholarships and international programs.
Center for Disaster Research & Education (CDRE)
Located at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania in the Environmental Hazards and Emergency Management Division, the CDRE conducts research into various issues related to disasters and terrorism.
Their work includes, but is not limited to, investigation of behavioural and organizational issues related to mitigation, planning, and response to disasters and terrorism. While their work is primarily shared with stakeholders, CDRE seeks to develop educational and training opportunities directed toward public policy makers, emergency personnel, the mass media and average citizens.
Disaster Research Center
The Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware conducts field and survey research on group, organizational and community preparation for, response to, and recovery from natural and technological disasters and other community-wide crises.
DRC researchers have carried out systematic studies on a broad range of disaster types including hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous chemical incidents and plane crashes.
International Rescue Committee (IRC)
The IRC, associated with the International Sociological Association, originally started as the Research Committee on the Sociology of Disasters. This Committee has more than 200 members in over three dozen countries and publishes its own journal "The International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters".
Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine
At the Department of Emergency Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University, the centre was formally established in April 2003 to coordinate emergency medicine research projects that can help guide health care policy.
DALHOUSIE University, Faculty of Medicine, Emergency Medicine Research
The Department of Emergency Medicine's leading-edge research program is advancing knowledge in the discipline of emergency medicine. Their strengths lie in areas such as airway management in the emergency setting, patient safety, pain, injury prevention and the delivery of coordinated multi-site, multi-disciplinary emergency services.
NFPA - National Fire Protection Association
NFPA´s wealth of fire-related research includes investigations of technically significant fire incidents, fire data analysis and the Charles S. Morgan Technical Library, one of the most comprehensive fire literature collections in the world. In addition, NFPA´s Fire Protection Research Foundation is a source of independent fire test data.
