Applications are now being accepted for more than $100,000 in awards, bursaries and scholarships for students at the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC). These awards provide crucial financial support for learners pursuing careers in public safety, justice, and community service.
Students are encouraged to check their eligibility and apply before the May 30 deadline. Each year there are 32 general bursaries, awards, and scholarships open to students and an additional 42 awards and bursaries that are specific to areas of study and different groups of learners.
The new Joseph H. Cohen and Family Memorial Award recognizes two students in the Law Enforcement Studies Diploma or Bachelor of Law Enforcement Studies programs who have demonstrated involvement in school and/or community activities.
Another new award, the Chief Rhonda Larrabee Bursary, is named in honour of Rhonda Larrabee, Chief of the Qayqayt First Nations, in recognition of her significant contributions to raising awareness of Indigenous culture and history. The bursary supports Indigenous students in financial need enrolled in an eligible degree, diploma, or certificate program.
The Rix Family Foundation Entrance Award is generously funded through the Rix Family Foundation endowment administered by The JIBC Foundation. It is a renewable merit-based award for new students in full-time and part-time programs who show dedication to a public safety career.
The JIBC Emergency Assistance Bursary is available year-round for students with a financial need due to unforeseen circumstances.
Bursaries assist students in financial need, while awards are based on a combination of criteria that may include community involvement and financial need. Each of these awards and bursaries reflects the dedication and support of our generous donors to help JIBC students achieve their goals and contribute meaningfully to communities across British Columbia and beyond.
