These preceptors were nominated for the care, professionalism, and encouragement they consistently bring to their students.

Each year, JIBC’s Excellence in Precepting Award recognizes Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) preceptors who make an exceptional impact on student learning and professional development. These educators play a central role in shaping the next generation of paramedics, offering guidance, mentorship, and real‑world insight during one of the most formative stages of a student’s training.

Because the award is based on student nominations, it reflects the genuine appreciation and respect these preceptors have earned from those they teach. Being selected is a meaningful acknowledgment of their skill, leadership, and dedication to creating positive learning experiences.

We are proud to introduce the 2024 Excellence in Precepting Award recipients:

  • Sheena Osborne, Advanced Care Paramedic Preceptor, Lower Mainland
  • Mike Cawker, Advanced Care Paramedic Preceptor, Fraser Valley
  • Scott Kozol, Advanced Care Paramedic Preceptor, Fraser Valley
  • Tim Dutchak, Advanced Care Paramedic Preceptor, Victoria

These preceptors were nominated for the care, professionalism, and encouragement they consistently bring to their students. Their influence is reflected in the thoughtful comments shared by those they supported throughout the program.

Honoring Our Award Recipients

Sheena Osborne

Students describe Sheena as an exceptional educator with deep clinical knowledge and a natural ability to teach. From the moment students arrived at the station, she made them feel welcome and included. Sheena fostered a safe, supportive learning environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and taking on new challenges. After every call, she offered thoughtful, balanced feedback and worked with students to create clear plans for improvement. The Vital Role of ACP Preceptors

ACP preceptors are experienced paramedics who generously share their expertise to help new clinicians develop confidence, competence, and strong professional judgment. Their mentorship is essential to the ACP program, where hands‑on, work‑integrated learning is a cornerstone of preparing graduates to enter the field ready to serve their communities.

The Excellence in Precepting Award celebrates those who stand out for creating student‑focused, supportive learning environments that help future ACPs thrive. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and commitment these preceptors invest in shaping the future of paramedic practice in British Columbia.
