Project Summary: This project will identify recent trends, topics, and issues within public safety through a review of academic literature, professional publications, and conference content. With a focus on Canadian disciplines relevant to JIBC—such as police, fire, paramedicine, and emergency management—the study will support institutional planning and partnership-building.

Outcomes and Benefits: The project will produce a categorized summary of key issues shaping public safety today, offering insight into shared and discipline-specific concerns. These findings will help position JIBC to lead relevant, responsive research and convene national conversations. The work will support future grant proposals, expand partnerships, and lay the foundation for an annual knowledge-sharing event. Student researchers will gain hands-on experience in literature reviews, data collection, and research methods, while contributing to JIBC’s applied research infrastructure.
Funding and Support: This project draws on funds research supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) through the Mobilize grant, administered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
