We invite you to share your feedback on a new Emergency Operations Centre Simulation (EOC Sim) developed by the Justice Institute of British Columbia.
This pilot simulation offers an interactive introduction to the role of a Planning Section Chief in an Emergency Operations Centre. Participants follow a typical operational period, from initial deployment through to the end of the shift, gaining insight into the responsibilities, decisions, and activities involved in the role.
As an early prototype, the simulation is designed to explore how digital learning tools can support emergency management education and training. The goal is not to move through the simulation as quickly as possible or master the controls. Instead, we encourage you to focus on the Planning Section Chief's responsibilities and how the role contributes throughout an operational period.
The simulation is not intended to replace EOC training courses or replicate every aspect of a real emergency. Rather, it serves as a supplementary learning tool that can support review, practice, and facilitated discussion.
How to Participate
- Watch this short instructional video to learn more about how the simulation works.
- Open the EOS Sim Web Link (Google Chrome recommended) and complete the simulation. It takes 20 - 30 minutes to complete.
- Complete this survey after you finish the simulation.
Your feedback will play an important role in refining the simulation and shaping the future use of immersive digital learning in emergency management training.
Thank you for your time and participation. We hope you find the experience both engaging and valuable.
*Note: Some users who are new to on-screen games may experience dizziness or discomfort while navigating a three-dimensional digital environment. Please stop the simulation at any time if you feel unwell.
