Advanced Security Training Theory

The Advanced Security Training (AST) course is a 24-hour Ministry-approved program for licensed security workers in British Columbia. It provides the knowledge and practical skills required to apply for authorization to carry and use restraining devices (handcuffs) while performing security work. Building on the Basic Security Training (BST) course, AST emphasizes the safe, lawful, and respectful application of force, as well as proper reporting. AST certification must be renewed every three years.
