Course Details

Participants will learn how to ethically and lawfully interview witnesses. Through theory and job-related scenario training, each student should become proficient at interviewing witnesses to events being investigated. The material will be based on scientifically-supported best practices with emphasis on Canadian legal and ethical standards. Students will learn to appreciate the idiosyncratic nature of witness recall and learn to interview individuals based on a semi-structured set of principles as opposed to a one-size-fits-all protocol. Participants will leave the course having honed their skills through listening, observing, doing and teaching. They will become proficient at planning for and obtaining information that is complete and reliable through a cognitive approach.
