Course Details

Controlled Vehicle Intervention Training (CVIT) is an advanced police driving course designed to teach pursuit prevention, mitigation, and termination techniques. The goal is to reduce the risk of death or serious injury when using a police vehicle to stop another vehicle. Through a combination of classroom instruction and on-track exercises, officers will learn how to safely box in a vehicle, as well as how to make controlled contact and push a simulated moving vehicle. Emphasis will be placed on remaining calm and deliberate with decision-making and executing these techniques effectively in high-stress situations.
