Course Details
This customizable contract course combines key content from Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills 1 and 2 to build the practical knowledge and skills required for regulatory and community-based enforcement roles in British Columbia. Designed for professionals whose responsibilities include enforcing bylaws, regulations, policies, or community rules, including Indigenous Community Safety Officers, parks staff, and other regulatory enforcement personnel, the course can be tailored to reflect the specific responsibilities and operational context of the client organization. Clients select 10 topics from the list of 22 learning outcomes, allowing the training to focus on the knowledge and skills most relevant to their staff. Topics may include legal authorities and responsibilities, compliance and enforcement options, investigations, evidence collection and documentation, interviewing, discretion and decision-making, conflict de-escalation, officer and public safety, trauma-informed approaches, and working effectively with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, homelessness, and other complex social circumstances.
