Course Details

Through classroom-based presentation and practical skills training occurring in a simulated ship environment, participants will gain valuable fire fighting knowledge and skills required for safety at sea aboard ships. The focus with this portion of the training is on fire knowledge, various methods of fire control and fire extinguishment during simulated live fire training. This MED- Basic Safety Training course is based on the requirements of Transport Canada TP 4957, Chapter 10, and is in direct compliance with STCW95 Convention, Regulation Vl/l. This course is delivered at the JIBC Maple Ridge Campus. The training is offered in collaboration with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), who offers the companion 4-day course at the BCIT Marine campus.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Candidates must be a minimum of 15 years of age and have 1) a valid & current seafarer's medical certifying that the candidate is fit without limitations, 2) completed Fatigue Management at Sea (available for free from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety). Proof of current seafarer's medical and completion of Fatigue Management at Sea must be provided to JIBC Fire Safety Division before attending the course.
