My interest in paramedicine began at a young age through my involvement with Air Cadets, where I was part of the first aid team and competed at the provincial level. Those early experiences sparked a passion for emergency medicine that continued into my career. I went on to complete my Primary Care Paramedicine Certificate in Newfoundland and, after several years of field experience, earned my Advanced Care Paramedicine Diploma in Alberta.
Throughout my career, I have worked across a variety of emergency response settings, including traditional ground ambulance services, air medical transport, and medical standby roles on film sets. Working in multiple provinces and systems has shaped my approach to paramedicine and given me a broad perspective on patient care, teamwork, and clinical decision-making.
Why did you choose to get involved in the education of Advanced Care Paramedics at JIBC? After living in British Columbia for a few years, I began teaching with the EMR program at JIBC. What initially started as an opportunity to support learners quickly turned into a genuine passion for teaching. I found that I truly enjoyed helping students develop confidence, clinical reasoning, and professional judgment. While I hadn’t originally planned to step into a lead instructor role this early in my teaching career, the opportunity came at the right time. I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the role and am grateful to be teaching at the Advanced Care Paramedic level.
What do you feel that you bring to the Advanced Care Paramedic program at JIBC? I bring a wide range of clinical experiences and perspectives to the ACP program, having worked in multiple provinces and across diverse areas of paramedicine. This allows me to share real-world insights and help students understand how paramedicine can look different depending on the system, environment, and role. I am committed to continually improving the ACP program and contributing to the development of strong, competent graduates. Whether through refining course content, enhancing simulation experiences, or supporting student learning, my goal is to help ensure JIBC continues to produce high-quality paramedics. I am also passionate about highlighting the many career pathways available within paramedicine.
Why should students choose JIBC’s ACP Program? Although my experience with JIBC is still relatively new, I can clearly see the direction the institute is taking in shaping the future of ACP education. The combination of strong didactic instruction and extensive hands-on and simulation-based learning provides students with high-quality, practical training. My goal is to help build the ACP program at JIBC into one of the most sought-after programs for paramedics in British Columbia and beyond — one that prepares graduates to be confident, adaptable, and ready for the demands of modern paramedic practice.
