A valuable training resource

The JIBC Mobile Live-Fire Training Lab is a unique resource that offers municipal and industrial fire services throughout B.C. the opportunity to provide essential live-fire training in their own region. It can be transported throughout the province and be used for a wide range of live-fire, rescue, and other first responder training scenarios to help your department/organization meet your customized training needs.

This 50-foot, self-contained semi-trailer unit includes a number of unique features such as:

  • An on board generator, propane supply, and breathing air supply
  • Training props inside the unit including a single bed, couch, stove and waste paper basket to provide realistic situational interior structural fire training
  • Confined space, forcible entry, breaching wall panels, standpipe and sprinkler props
  • Portion of the unit has an expandable roof to provide a 13-foot, two-storey training area
  • Exterior props to simulate flammable liquid fires, pressurized gas cylinder fires, and small flammable liquid pan fires.

The Mobile Live-Fire Training Lab provides various benefits to local municipal fire departments outside the Lower Mainland of B.C.:

  • An instructor and technician to operate the unit are included
  • Firefighters can train with their own equipment
  • Firefighters remain in the community to continue to provide fire protection while obtaining their training
  • Cost of transporting the unit is lower than paying for travel and hotel to send firefighters out of region
  • Volunteer firefighters do not have to take time away from work to obtain their training

The Mobile Live-Fire Training Lab provides various benefits to local industrial fire departments outside the Lower Mainland of B.C.:

  • An instructor and technician to operate the unit are included
  • Industrial firefighters can train in their own facility with their own equipment
  • Company does not have to pay for cost of travel or overtime for sending their firefighters out of region
  • Firefighters remain in the region to continue to provide fire protection while obtaining their training
  • Training can be tailored to meet the needs of the company while also maintaining certification requirements
  • Training times can be customized to accommodate staff work schedules. For example, five-day courses can be compressed to four days for companies with a four-on, four-off work schedule.
