2021-JPSD-Canine-Security-Validation-500x400

Is this program right for you?

Be the one helping to keep your community or organization safe. If you are a security business or security guard using dogs while providing security services in BC, this validation is for you.

Security businesses and security guards using canines while providing security services in BC must hold an authorization from the BC Registrar of Security Services to offer this type of service.

A prerequisite of applying for authorization is the successful completion of the Validation Standards Competency Test through JIBC. The JIBC Private Security Industry Canine Program administers the validation of canine teams for licensed security workers and trained canines. It does not offer or recommend specific training for canine teams.

Validation Tests

Validation of canine teams is based on the minimum performance standards developed by JIBC and the Ministry of Justice, Security Programs and Police Technology Division.

The validation tests are conducted by a JIBC qualified evaluator in accordance with the Security Dog Validation Standards (PDF) handout. Validations must be renewed each year.

The validation tests or required tasks are designed to determine the proficiency and reliability of the canine team in two distinct profiles:

  • Protection (including Human Scent detection)
  • Signature Odour Scent Work (Narcotic or Explosives)

Successful Completion

Students will receive a Canine Security Validation certificate for the profile which they validated in, and a copy of their validation test results.

To schedule a validation, contact the JIBC Private Security Industry Canine Program
