The Rix Family Foundation Study Abroad Award supports students pursuing international learning opportunities that provide credit toward their JIBC program. By providing essential financial assistance, this award aims to reduce barriers and make global education more accessible.

Two awards from $1,000 to $3,000 available annually (dependent on length of opportunity and country)

Eligibility Criteria
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada for at least one year.
    • Resident of British Columbia, defined as having a primary residence in the province for at least 12 consecutive months before the date of full-time enrollment in the program for which the award is applied.
  • Enrolled full-time in an eligible JIBC degree, diploma or certificate program. 
  • Demonstrated academic excellence (minimum B average in cumulative GPA)
  • Demonstrated commitment to the international learning experience.
  • Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate involvement in school and/ or community activities; and capacity for representing JIBC and Canada as an ambassador. Preference to be supported by a letter of reference.
Application Process
  • Download and complete an application form. 
  • Provide an unofficial transcript to show proof of academic performance. Unofficial transcripts can be obtained via myJIBC.ca student portal.
  • Provide a letter outlining personal goals and community/school involvement.
  • A written and supportive essay with a minimum of 1,000 words. Must have Faculty markup and grade included. The paper must include a minimum of four references and be written using APA style.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview with the selection committee. 

 Note: Failure to complete all sections of the application form may result in disqualification of your application. Any misrepresentation will result in a penalty which could include but is not limited to, expulsion from your program, ineligibility to be considered for future awards and forfeit of any outstanding awards.
