Clinical Supervision in Counselling & Psychotherapy Level 1

Building a solid rapport in the supervisor-supervisee relationship is the foundation of an effective supervisory alliance. Studies on the topic of interpersonal neurobiology and neuroscience provide evidence for the need to enhance relational awareness and competencies in clinical supervision. Moreover, research has found a positive correlation between the strength of a supervisory alliance and supervisees' self-efficacy, as well as the supervisees' professional relationships with clients and outcomes of the supervisory experience. In this course, learners will gain insights concerning effective supervision and how to apply relational models within the supervisory process. The experiential learning in this course will take place in a supportive community. This course will offer learners the chance to develop deeper awareness of intra-personal and interpersonal processes which include: greater awareness of what is happening within the supervisor, within the supervisee, and between the supervisor and the supervisee during the supervision process. There will be an emphasis on the development of the supervisee and the supervisor through the practice and embodiment of relational competencies in clinical supervision.

Note: To be suitable for this course students should have five years counselling experience and a counselling or related designation. Prior to the course start date you will be contacted and asked to clarify your experience and education. If you do not have the suitable experience to take the course you may be required to withdraw and will be issued a full refund.

Important course information:
This course includes an orientation and pre-reading package that will take approx. 2-4 hours to complete. Learners will be sent the orientation and prereading 2 weeks before the class start date. The course also entails a final assignment that students must successfully pass to complete the course. The final assignment may require finding time to meet and work with a group, and arranging time with the instructor to present and participate in role-playing activities following the three-day course. Typically, the assignment is due one week after the conclusion of the three-day course. Your instructor will offer potential meeting times, and you will have the opportunity to sign up for one of these sessions. Additional instructions regarding the assignment will be provided during the course.
