Course Details

This course is designed to familiarize learners with the role and responsibilities of a security officer/correctional officer. Through the use of lectures, practical application and role plays, new security officers will receive reality-based training from knowledgeable supervisors: trainers and instructors, and managers. This training focuses on services available to correctional staff, and on staff safety and the security of the centre. Training content outlines how to support and manage people in the care and custody of BC Corrections through case management and with work programs, educational and recreational services. The course will allow security officers to further explore and learn about administrative fairness, trauma informed practices, Indigenous cultural awareness, mental health and the impact of segregation on individuals in the care and custody of BC Corrections.
