Experience includes education leadership, finance, and emergency management sectors
The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) welcomes six new members to its Board of Governors who have been appointed by the Province of British Columbia.
Windy Beadall, Anita Gill, Lori Pruce, Douglas Purdie, Yang Wang and Catherine Wishart were appointed to the Board for an initial one-year term starting July 31, 2026.
New Governors bring wide range of expertise
Wendy Beadall is a retired elementary school teacher, secondary school principal, and District Principal of Capital Planning for the Sooke school district.
Anita Gill has 20 years of progressive experience and leadership in legislative enforcement. Currently, she is the Director, Security, Safety and Emergency Management for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA), Canada’s largest port.
Lori Pruce, a Métis woman of Cree and French descent, has served on JIBC’s Indigenous Advisory Council and has held other community service roles. She has more than 35 years of public service experience in mental health, family justice, and public safety and Indigenous leadership.
Doug Purdie is a Chartered Professional Accountant and retired audit partner of Ernst & Young LLP. He has extensive experience on boards and associations and has received national recognition with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers.
Yang Wang is President of Apeiron Group, which specializes in real estate finance, development, and asset management across Canada. He has been recognized for his community work across B.C. and is also the founder of West Vancouver’s Lunar New Year celebration.
Catherine Wishart has more than 30 years of experience in post-secondary education leadership. Since 2016, she has consulted with First Nations and Northern Health in areas including governance, labour market analysis, human resources, strategic planning, and policy development.
Chair re-elected, new Vice-Chair chosen
Jim Wishlove, Fire Chief for the City of Richmond, was re-elected as Board Chair while gerontologist and researcher Eddy Elmer was elected as the new Vice-Chair.
Two existing Board members were reappointed - Wishlove has been reappointed a third time through July 2029 and Mark Weintraub has been reappointed a second time through July 2028.
Former Governors Samina Tajwar, Laurel Douglas, Helen Allen, Mary Ellen Thornburn, Daryl Grey and Michelle Cameron have retired from the Board.
“We thank the departing Board members for their years of service and sage counsel as we continue to navigate changes in the post-secondary landscape,” said President and CEO Len Goerke.
