Course Details

The sentencing of a young person attracts considerable attention from those outside of the youth justice system, particularly if the young person has committed a serious offence. This course was designed to provide specific knowledge regarding the sentencing provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act, including the guiding purpose and principles of sentencing young persons and the many different community and custody-based sentences. Emphasis will be placed on the role of youth probation officers in the sentencing process. This course is only available to Ministry of Children and Family Development employees, as identified in their Youth Probation Training Plan.
